This tutorial is my own creation, any resemblance to another tutorial is purely
coincidental. I made it using PSP 7 but it should work in other versions.

You can move this arrow to mark your place in the tutorial so you don't get lost.

This is a very basic
introduction to Custom brushes for those who are just starting out with PSP or never tried
the brushes before. Start by opening a small transparent image. Click on the
Brush tool and then go
to Tool Options Window. There are 2 tabs at the top of this window. We will be
using both. On the first tab click on the little brush on the top right corner of
this window. You will see the dropdown menu like below left. Click on Custom.
A new window opens. Click on the tiny triangle by the brush window and you will be
able to view all of the custom brushes that you have installed. (below right) Click
on the brush you want to use and then OK. |

|

|
Now click on the other tab at the top of
Tool Options. You will see the window below. Put check marks in the top 2.
Now when you use a brush you will be able to see exactly where you are putting your
brush and how big it is. To change the size go back to the first tab and change the
numbers in the Size window. You can see above that the brush is set at 250.
That is a very large brush. Most times you will want is smaller. |

|
In the first window below you can see the
outline of the brush. In the second window you see it after you click
the graphic and it applies whatever paint you chose. You can use gradients or
patterns also. |

|
Now that you have one corner done, lets
play. Use the Move Tool to put the brush exactly where you want it. Now go to
Layers and duplicate the first layer. Now Images/Mirror. Merge Visible the
first 2 layers. Now duplicate that layer and then go to Images/Flip. You
should now have a brush design in each corner. This is a quick and easy way to add
fancy corners to a frame. |

|
That's it! You did it. Now you can Merge Visible to keep it transparent or
Merge All (flatten) and save. Don't forget to put the brush setting back to normal
or your Custom Brush will still be there.
